My Apologies
Tue Mar 28, 2006 at 12:22:11 PM PDT
I want to apologize for offending many Kossacks that I respect, with the diary I have deleted. It was not my intent to inflame. Rather, I want an honest answer to a valid question regarding a potentially unethical situation.
It bothers me tremendously that fellow Kossacks aren't more concerned about protecting the integrity of this site.
Again, my apologies.
The Final Word On IL-06 -- Moving On
Mon Mar 27, 2006 at 02:56:11 PM PDT
I'm posting my diary here because of
This Pie Fight, in which a fellow Kossack was mercilessly attacked by certain DLC-Leaning Partisan HACK Kossacks, for (God Forbid) stating his own personal beliefs. Sadly, many of those HACKS
don't even live in ILLINOIS, let alone DuPage County.
This will be my last word on the IL-06 Primary. In fact, I probably won't even read or respond to comments. Why? Because doing so has become futile...Especially here at dKos, where the blogs have been hijacked by said Partisan Hacks, who (shamefully) have no interest in REAL Reform.
Allow me to share with you what is REALITY...HERE ON THE GROUND...In DuPage County:
Why I'm Confident Of A Cegelis Victory Today
Tue Mar 21, 2006 at 08:12:50 AM PDT
I won't have much (if any) time to respond to comments on this diary, as I have to get back out into the field. But I just wanted to post a quick diary to show WHY I feel so strongly that Cegelis will win today.
This snapshot (below the fold) of poll results, currently running in the (Suburban Chicago) Daily Herald, pretty much tells the story:
Why I Support Mangieri For IL State Treasurer
Tue Mar 14, 2006 at 11:58:29 AM PDT
I know that many Illinois Democrats, especially my fellow Cegelis supporters, are supporting Alexi Giannoulias for IL State Treasurer. I understand and respect your decision. But I want to tell you why I'm supporting Paul Mangieri instead. Paul and I are life long friends. We grew up in the same small town (downstate), where Paul's uncle was our beloved Mayor. We went to the same church, played on the same football team and graduated from high school together in 1977.
I'll never forget one defining moment from our senior class trip. A bunch of us were talking about our future plans and ambitions. Many of us had starry-eyed dreams, with no real commitment to them. Not Paul. He spoke up with great conviction and announced, "I'm going to be the President of the United States". He's spent the rest of his life working towards that goal.
dKos Inspirational Pootie Fest!
Sat Feb 04, 2006 at 02:34:13 PM PDT
If the weather (and political climate) is as depressing where you are as it is here, then you'll enjoy this little dKos pootie-pick-me-up collage! A friend sent me these pics, which I "massaged" a bit with Microsoft PAINT. You've probably seen some of these pics before, but I've added my own "inspirational" text.
In consideration of those on dial-up, I'm only going to post the first six pics. You can view the rest of the collage HERE (21 pics total).
Hope you like it.....Mike
[editor's note, by mlkisler] Scaled pics for dial-up users. Didn't realize how big they were.
Another Republican In Trouble
Thu Feb 02, 2006 at 11:56:03 AM PDT
Former Illinois House Speaker Lee Daniels is now
IN THE SPOTLIGHT for using campaign funds to pay legal bills.
Former Republican House leader Lee Daniels paid $112,000 from his campaign funds to defense lawyers amid a federal corruption probe that has snared his former top aide, campaign finance records show.
The campaign finance reports, filed late Tuesday, reported the expenditures by Daniels' political fund and his once potent House Republican Campaign Committee. Under Illinois law, politicians can use their campaign funds for legal expenses, including criminal investigations.
Hastert Staffer(?) Subpoenaed Today
Tue Jan 31, 2006 at 04:46:38 PM PDT
I just found
This Diary at SoapBlox/Chicago, stating that House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert was subpoenaed today.
Here's what it said:
Breaking - Hastert Subpoenaed
Just heard it announced at the end of the session of the House meeting on C-SPAN. Watch for more news.
(Hat Tip to Kankakee Voice)
In reality, I think it was Bonnie Walsh, a member of his staff, who was subpoenaed. See below for further explanation.
IL Kossacks: Prodigal KOS Is Coming Home!
Thu Jan 19, 2006 at 03:02:39 PM PDT
ATTENTION ALL MIDWESTERN KOSSACKS!
Illinois' favorite "blog-son" is coming home! That's right boys and girls, this is your chance to meet our very own, world famous, Markos Alberto Moulitsas Zuniga!
This is great news for Midwesterners who were disappointed that YearlyKos chose Las Vegas over Chicago. Can't afford Las Vegas? How about NAPERVILLE?

AP: Cat Dials 911 To Save Owner (W/Poll)
Mon Jan 02, 2006 at 03:42:28 PM PDT
Who says dogs are man's best friend? Who says you can't teach tricks to cats? I know
This Guy didn't:
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Police aren't sure how else to explain it. But when an officer walked into an apartment Thursday night to answer a 911 call, an orange-and-tan striped cat was lying by a telephone on the living room floor. The cat's owner, Gary Rosheisen, was on the ground near his bed having fallen out of his wheelchair.
Rosheisen said his cat, Tommy, must have hit the right buttons to call 911.
"I know it sounds kind of weird," Officer Patrick Daugherty said, unsuccessfully searching for some other explanation.
Anti-Christian Jeans Hot New Trend In Sweden (W/Poll)
Fri Dec 30, 2005 at 11:00:07 AM PDT
I finally see a light at the end of the religious-right tunnel! Could it be possible? Is the end truly near for evangelical domination of the world? Based on
THIS ARTICLE, it just might be.
STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) - New anti-Christian jeans have become hot sellers in Sweden.
They're known as Cheap Monday and have a trendy tight fit and low price. They also have a logo that features a skull with a cross turned upside down on its forehead.
The logo's designer admits he has a "great dislike" for organized religion and says the logo is an "active statement against Christianity."
I Saw Brokeback Mountain Friday Night (W/Poll)
Sun Dec 18, 2005 at 11:41:54 AM PDT
I went to see
Brokeback Mountain Friday night. Three friends and I saw it at the "Premium Theater" (upscale, with food & alcohol--no minors). Although I
rarely go see movies, and
almost never get excited about a particular flick, I was anxious to see this one.
I almost wish now that I hadn't gone.
Don't get me wrong. It was an excellent movie, which I highly recommend. But it hit a little too close to home for me. I can't stop thinking about it. It has stirred up every emotion imaginable within me. So many that I don't know where to begin sorting them out.
I see a lot of myself in Ennis Del Ray (Heath Ledger). And I see parts of me (the misfit) in Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal). I see a little of Matt Shepard in him, too.
I think what upsets me most, though, is the fear that I could easily end up like Ennis. As I approach my fifties, that is a thought that truly haunts me. Don Henley nailed it in the song Desperado. We "need to let somebody love us, before it's too late".
But enough about me...
Dear Rahm/Duckworth/Durbin/McDermott (with poll)
Tue Dec 06, 2005 at 04:47:13 PM PDT
Attached below is a copy of an email that I sent to David McDermott, who is "on vacation" from Senator Durbin's Office to help run the
"Insert Candidate Here" ALL expenses paid (By DCCC) Campaign-In-A-Box candidacy of wounded veteran Tammy Duckworth.
Duckworth has been politically romanced/seduced by DCCC Chair Rahm Emanuel to serve as his puppet candidate in IL-06 (Hyde's District) against Citizen Candidate Christine Cegelis. And why not...After all, Rahm IS the DLC's "Karl Rove"!
BTW--I thoroughly expect to be flamed as "unpatriotic", for daring to speak out against wounded veteran/candidate Duckworth...Or the Honorable Emanuel/Durbin Duo...I don't give a shit.
Fact is, I'm not against Ms. Duckworth...I'm against Rahm's (and Durbin's) manipulative, meddling, dirty politics.

Topinka To Run For IL Governor
Mon Nov 07, 2005 at 09:18:59 AM PDT
Well,
THIS could make things interesting!
State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka has told leading Republicans that she intends to run for governor, dramatically recasting the GOP's prospects for capturing an office it had held for a quarter of a century, sources familiar with the decision said Sunday.
Harpers: USA Now Fascist State (W/Poll)
Fri Oct 21, 2005 at 12:02:31 PM PDT
If this has already been diaried, well, just shoot me! I searched the Diary List with keyword "Harpers" and nothing came up. So here goes:
I just received an email with a link to This Site. What I found there (among other things), was a link to THIS SITE. Granted, its convoluted, and UNVERIFIED (by me, at least), but thought it might be of interest to many Kossacks.
EXCERPT:
Harper's Magazine: We Now Live in a Fascist State
Date: Tue, 11 Oct 2005 13:34:38 -0700
The article below appears in the current issue of Harpers and was written
by Lewis H. Lapham
www.harpers.org/LewisLapham.html
Knowing the source of this piece makes it all the more disturbing. It is not every day that the editor of a respected national magazine publishes an essay claiming that America is not on the road to becoming, but ALREADY IS, a fascist state.... or words to that affect....

New Study: Twofold Approach Best Fights Alcoholism
Thu Oct 13, 2005 at 06:49:54 PM PDT
When a fellow Kossack decided to "sober up" a few months ago, I was very proud of the way this community rallied around him in support.
At the time, I stated that I felt that those who were most successful in recovery were the ones (in my experience) that sought out both professional treatment AND Alcoholics Anonymous.
But all I had was my own anecdotal observations to back that up. Well as of today, my opinion is now backed up by Scientific Research.
Some excerpts below the fold:
LUCKY Dog Needs Help Getting Home To NOLA Family
Tue Oct 11, 2005 at 11:00:53 AM PDT
FINALLY!
A tiny bit of GOOD news from the NOLA debacle. As we all know, many "pet rescue" groups from around the country went to NOLA after Hurricane Katrina, and rescued pets left behind by their (devastated) owners.
Well, I am happy to REPORT that one family and their pet dog,Ginger, are NEARLY reunited.

Me And My BIG MOUTH! (W/POLL)
Sun Oct 09, 2005 at 01:53:45 AM PDT
Somebody once said,
"Don't say anything on the internet that you wouldn't want to see on the front page of the New York Times".
Sage advice...Too bad I didn't listen.
No, I didn't wind up anywhere near the New York Times (this time), but I was informed that my comments "didn't play in Peoria". Peoria, IL, that is. More specifically, the Peoria Journal Star.
Now, you would think that having grown up around there, I would remember that THERE ARE NO DEMOCRATS IN PEORIA (or anywhere within a 50 mile radius). But I've been gone a long time, and, well, sometimes you just kinda forget the parts ya didn't like...And I forgot that part entirely.
You see, there is this columnist at the Peoria Journal Star that I communicate with on occasion. We've worked on a story or two together in the past. We'll Call her Terry Bibo. It seems that I ruffled her feathers.
