BYU Alternative Commencement Audio File is here!

Sat Apr 28, 2007 at 07:39:53 AM PDT

I recorded the live feed of the BYU Alternative Commencement that so many of us here at DailyKos.com helped make possible with donations.  If you would like a copy of the audio file of what I thought was a really great event (including a great speech by Ralph Nader), I posted the file up (with coordinator Joe Vogel's permission) at a file sharing site where anyone can download.

Fred Thompson: Liar or Ignoramus?

Thu Mar 15, 2007 at 12:23:38 PM PDT

According to an article on RawStory.com today, former Tennessee Republican senator Fred Thompson, who is considering a run for the Presidency, said," 'Mahatma Gandhi's 'way isn't the American way.' "

Raw Story a bit later:

Thompson adds, "Besides coolers and mattresses, protesters have brought along a giant paper mache statue of Mahatma Gandhi, who is pretty much the symbol of the anti-war movement. Code Pink was founded on his birthday, and when Saddam Hussein was being given a last chance to open Iraq to U.N. weapons inspectors, posters appeared around America asking 'What would Gandhi do?'"

Al Gore on Television

Fri Mar 02, 2007 at 02:11:03 PM PDT

For all the Al Gore fans on this site, there will be four shows coming up with Al Gore on them (Well, three shows and one cartoon with his voice). Please forgive me. I was not sure if I should just make this a comment in another Al Gore diary, but we have so many Al Gore fans here that I wanted to be sure people did not miss out, especially because my TIVO only shows each show showing once.

(By the way, I am in Arizona in Mountain Standard Time, so if you are in the Pacific Standard Time, you will probably need to subtract an hour. East Coast people will probably need to add 2 hours.  Please check your local listings.)

How Long Until Open Warfare With IRAN? (A Poll)

Mon Feb 12, 2007 at 04:00:12 PM PDT

Various sources make me think that we will openly be fighting a war with Iran in the next few weeks or months:

  1. The Newsweek story on msnbc.com entitled Rumors of War talks about the activities right now that might be called a war, along with the possibility of an enlarging war in the future. Specifically it mentions that a second carrier group is being sent to the area of Iran, with a third group likely to follow.
  1. The story from The Guardian via the Taipei Times entitled US forces almost ready for Iran air strike, say sources

Would You Impeach If Bush invaded Iran? ( a poll)

Thu Jan 11, 2007 at 01:31:17 PM PDT

There are dozens of reasons to impeach George W. Bush.  I, however, am one of the people that think that, for now, we should not concentrate on impeaching him and should concentrate on putting as many good bills forward as possible and taking the White House in 2008.  This is because we do not have the votes to convict, and because we need to spend the time on other things, though I really wish we could easily convict him, because he is such a huge criminal.

However, if Bush did something as unbelievably awful as to launch a sizable invasion of Iran, that would push me into the Impeach category, because it would mean that we had to stop him immeadiately before we got bogged down in yet ANOTHER country.

So my poll question (below) is this. If Bush invaded Iran, would you support immeadiate impeachment proceedings?

Frame Analysis: Go Long = Stay-The-Course LIGHT

Mon Nov 20, 2006 at 03:11:36 PM PDT

My first reaction to the new proposals such as GO BIG, GO LONG, and GO HOME is as follows:

  1. Go Big: Might have worked perhaps THREE YEARS AGO when a certain general proposed it, and then was forced out, but a few more troops now will make little difference:

A 2006 Victory Tshirt Contest would rule!

Thu Nov 09, 2006 at 02:18:58 PM PDT

I honestly believe that we should celebrate the democratic 2006 Election victory as much as possible.  This will give us the strength to work even harder for the 2008 contest.  One way we can celebrate is through a Daily Kos Election Victory 2006 tshirt.

Imagine this for a moment.  It is the Daily Kos 2007 convention.  People come dressed in all manner of clothing, but the favorite thing to wear is the Daily Kos Election Victory Tshirt, designed in a contest here at the site and voted on by sitemembers.  We do have polls already. :)

"The Path to 9/11" Farce: Crush them with TIVO

Wed Sep 06, 2006 at 05:53:07 PM PDT

Update: Ok, it was my idea to record the advertisers from "The Path to 9/11" and send emails to the advertisers, but as some very bright commenters have pointed out, there apparently will not be any advertisements DURING mini series "The Path to 9/11". However, some people have recommended that we look at other adverisers during the day, since there advertising dollars will pay for that day. That sounds like a good idea. And since my TIVO can easily store 80 hours of shows, I can cover that. So, if you would like to help out, pop on to ABC either on 9/10 or 9/11 and jot down a few advertisers. Feel free to post them here as comments. I will look up the email addresses of the advertisers and post them here, so everyone can email them :) Thanks everyone for their ideas. --Steven
